Today we will discuss some common air conditioner error codes and what they mean. We are now in summer and temperatures have started shooting up and at OG Electrical Services we are getting more and more calls from our clients wanting to know more about the error codes that they are getting on their air-conditioning units.

There are some common error codes across different brands of air-conditioners but also error codes can vary by brand and model so always check your user manual or contact the manufacturer for the most accurate info.

General Error Codes Across Brands

E1/E2/E3/E4 – Temperature sensor issues:

These codes are usually temperature sensor or thermistor issues. E1 is indoor unit sensor, E2 outdoor unit, etc.

F1/F2/F3 – Communication or wiring errors:

These codes may be wiring between indoor and outdoor units or communication errors. F1 is often used for unit to unit communication.

P1 – Compressor overload:

This code means the compressor is running hotter or higher pressure than normal. Turn off the system and let it cool.

P2/P3 – Drainage or water-level issues:

Means full drain pan, clogged drain lines or water drainage issues. P3 is overflow or water pump failure in portable or window units.

H1/H2/H3 – Heat or defrosting issues:

Common in heat mode units. H1 is defrosting, H3 is compressor overheating.

E5 – Voltage or current overload:

This code means electrical issue, over voltage or current imbalance. May also be compressor issue.

Brand-Specific Air-Conditioner Error Codes

Daikin Air-Conditioner Error Codes

U4 – Indoor and outdoor unit communication. A3 – Drain system fault. C4 – Indoor heat exchanger sensor.

LG Air-Conditioner Error Codes

CH34 – High pressure switch. C1 – Indoor air thermistor. F1 – Outdoor air thermistor.

Samsung Air-Conditioner Error Codes

E101 – Indoor and outdoor unit communication. E121 – Indoor room temperature sensor. E154 – Outdoor compressor overload.

Mitsubishi Air-Conditioner Error Codes

P8 – Compressor high temperature. E6 – Indoor and outdoor unit communication. U2 – Low voltage supply.
